ASTROFEST ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION CURATOR

Roger Groom has curated the Astrofest Astrophotography Exhibition since 2021.

Roger is a local West Australian who is a software engineer/consultant by day, an astrophotographer and amateur astronomy researcher by night, and astrophotography workshop facilitator by weekend, while also operating a remote observatory hosting 3rd party telescopes.

He is heavily involved in the astronomy community within Perth and internationally. A member of the Perth Observatory Volunteer Group (POVG) since 2011 Roger has been Vice Chairperson, Chairperson, and remains an active member contributing hundreds of hours every year. Internationally Roger has worked on various research projects including Pluto and other transneptunian occultations, comet nuclei behaviour and composition studies, minor planet photometry, supernova discovery and follow-up.

Roger delivers astrophotography workshops via his business Astro Photography Australia to individual, small and large groups. His broad astrophotography experience with many different formats of astrophotography, equipment, and techniques makes him the perfect go-to person for astrophotography knowledge. Roger has on hand many popular astrophotography tracking mounts and other equipment for you to “try before you buy” and get the best out of your astrophotography.

Commencing in 2018 Roger Groom owns and operates Astro Observatories Western Australia, a business providing remote hosting facilities under our fantastic southern hemisphere dark skies. This facility allows local and international customers to utilise these dark skies remotely, hosting their telescope equipment at the AOWA facility.
