Astrofest Astrophotography Competition and Exhibition Terms & Conditions 2020
- Entries will be accepted from residents of Western Australia only.
- There is a limit of 10 entries per person per year.
- Each entry must be submitted to one of the following categories:
- Deep Sky
- Solar
- Lunar
- Planetary
- Nightscape
- Time Lapse Video
- If an entrant wishes to submit an entry for more than one category they may submit the entry once for each desired category. Each of those entries uses one of their 10 allowed entries per person per year.
- There will be the following awards presented:
- Best Astro Photo sponsored by Camera Electronic
- Best New Talent sponsored by Pendoley Environmental
- Best Astrotourism WA Nightscape Award sponsored by Astrotourism WA
- Frederick de Houtman Award for the Best Magellanic Cloud Photo sponsored by the Batavia Coast Maritime Heritage Association
- People’s Choice Award.
- In addition, winners will be announced for each of the award categories and trophies awarded. The award categories are sponsored by Perth Observatory:
- Best Deep Sky photograph
- Best Solar photograph
- Best Lunar photograph
- Best Planetary photograph
- Best Nightscape photograph
- Best Time Lapse Video Sequence
- Nightscape entries applicable to the Best Astrotourism WA Award must be stated as such; and include the name of the Astrotourism WA Shire/Local Government locality in the submission; and will feature terrestrial elements located in the Astrotourism WA Local Government locality.
- For the Astrotourism WA Award the eligible Local Government localities include the City of Greater Geraldton-Mullewa and the Shires of Carnamah, Chittering, Coorow, Dandaragan, Lake Grace, Northam, Mingenew, Moora, Morawa, Perenjori, Three Springs, Wagin, West Arthur, and Wongan-Ballidu.
- The Best New Talent category is open to Entrants who have not previously entered in the Astrofest exhibition. Entrants must indicate on their submission if they have previously entered an Astrofest exhibition and in doing so indicate their eligibility for the Best New Talent award. This will be validated against Astrofest Astrophotography Competition & Exhibition records.
- Entrants must be the owner of their submissions, having authored the photography and currently hold copyright ownership for the photography.
- In the case of images with multiple Entrants, the instigator of the image will be the principal Entrant and the one who “owns” the image. The principal Entrant must have performed the majority of the work to produce the image. All Entrants must be identified and named on the entry form along with their contributions to the production image.
- Entries must be received in full by 23:59 Friday 15th November AWST
- Entries must be submitted in a digital format via the upload link accessible from the Astronomy WA Astrofest website: http://www.astronomywa.net.au/astrofest.html
- Still images must be submitted as:
- JPG
- Video sequences must be submitted as:
- MOV, MPG, MP4 or AVI
- No longer than 2 minutes in length
- No entry fees are payable.
- Judging and selection:
- Entries are judged by a panel of judges appointed by the Curator.
- Judging decisions are final and no discussion will be entered in to.
- Judges and the Curator reserve the right to reject any entry that, in the opinion of the judges or Curator, does not meet the conditions of entry or is unsuitable for public display. The decision of the Judges and Curator will be final.
- If after the judging process an image is subsequently determined to have violated the letter and/or spirit of the Terms & Conditions, that image will be disqualified, and any prizes awarded for that image must be returned to the Curator.
- Copyright and image rights:
- Permission to reproduce entries for display in the exhibition in electronic or physical print form, for promotional material relating to Astrofest and the Astrofest Exhibition will be assumed as a condition of entry.
- The copyright of submitted photography remains with the Entrant.
- The Entrant grants a non-exclusive, non-transferrable license for the organisers of the exhibition to reproduce their submitted photographs for purposes relating directly to the Astrofest Astrophotography Competition and Exhibition, Astrofest or Astronomy WA.
- Entrants warrant that their Entries are in no way illegal, unlawful, fraudulent, in breach of any intellectual property, privacy, publicity or other rights, defamatory, obscene, derogatory, pornographic, sexually inappropriate, violent or abusive, harassing, threatening, objectionable with respect to race, religion, origin or gender, unsuitable for viewing by children aged under 18, or otherwise unsuitable for publication
- By making a submission to the exhibition the Entrant signals that the Entrant has read, understood and accepted these Astrofest Astrophotography Competition and Exhibition Terms & Conditions.
