BEST NIGHT SKY FRIENDLY LIGHTING PHOTO AWARD
This award of the 2024 Astrofest Astrophotography Exhibition showcases night sky friendly outdoor lighting though the exhibition of photographs that demonstrate responsible outdoor light at night.
Night sky friendly lighting refers to outdoor lighting fixtures and practices designed to minimise light pollution and preserve the natural darkness of the nighttime environment. Images should demonstrate good examples of the Australasian Dark Sky Alliance (ADSA) Best Practice Lighting principles. Additional details on the principles are also outlined in the Commonwealth Light Pollution Guidelines for Wildlife.
Photographs entered into this category need not include night sky elements but may optionally. Entries should illustrate responsible lighting or emphasise an absence of light pollution and may include concepts such as:
Photographs may be captured anywhere in the world, though the photographer must be a Western Australian resident.
This award encourages participation from the broader photography community, where entrants may have interests in photographing architecture, city scapes, parks and public places. Share this with your local photography club!
