Image Mars Society Australia (MSA) is the Australian chapter of a world-wide organization, incorporating more than 20 countries.

Mars Society Australia (MSA) is the Australian chapter of a world-wide organisation, incorporating more than 20 countries.

Image MSA is a CSIRO approved research institute, a non-profit organization whose purpose of is to further the goal of the exploration and settlement of Mars. This will be done by:

  1. broad public outreach to instil the vision of pioneering Mars;
  2. support of ever more aggressive government funded Mars exploration programs around the world,
  3. conducting Mars exploration on a private basis,
  4. encourage Australian participation in education, industry and government and individuals. conducting public outreach to improve awareness of Mars exploration and gain support for more government funded Mars missions.

The Western Australian branch of MSA meets on the first Monday of each month in the foyer of Horizon, the Planetarium, City West Building, West Perth. To find out more information, contact David Cooper via any of the methods listed at the end of this article.

Public lectures are held regularly, in conjunction with a number of other organisations. For details, please check their website.

Image The Western Australian branch is current involved in the Starchaser MARSupial Rover project. The Starchaser MARSupial is an experimental vehicle designed to investigate the operational concepts and limitations of a fully self contained exploration human carrying vehicle.

In 2003, the WA Branch hosted the 3rd Australian Mars Exploration Conference (AMEC2003), and this year is hosting AMEC2007, details of which are on the MSA website.

MSA and NASA are, this year, joining to provide an Australian extention of NASA's Spaceward Bound Education Project, Spaceward Bound Australia, assisting with the preparation of new scientists, engineers needed for the NASA's "Moon, Mars and Beyond" Programs.
