Scientists will be studying the space rock with the help of NASA’s Deep Space Network in California and equipment from at Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. They will bounce radio waves off the asteroid and back to Earth to collect radar images that will reveal surface features, shape, dimensions and other physical properties.

Asteroid 2005 YU55 is one of about 8,500 known near-Earth objects.
